Dear Pastor/Youth Pastor:
We would like to invite you and your youth group to a DNow weekend, January 11-13, 2019, sponsored by Double Mountain Baptist Association; featuring Bro. Ollie D. Pierson as the Special Guest Speaker. Ollie is the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of Haskell, TX and was the featured speaker at Saw You At The Pole last year. We are very excited to have him for the weekend!
Many of you might know what a DNow weekend is, but there are still many that might not. DNow is essentially a weekend retreat for students in junior high and high school. The idea behind DNow is to gather teenagers in a safe closed environment, creating community by strengthening friendships through shared experiences and maturing them spiritually through focused discipleship. Students get steady exposure to God’s Word, interacting with it in various ways throughout the weekend. The non-stop time spent together encourages teenagers to open up, getting “real” with each other and with leaders over the course of the weekend.
In addition to the value of time spent in God’s Word, students see it is possible to follow Christ in “their world.” The example set by leaders, youth workers, and other Christian friends show a lifestyle of discipleship – following Christ is an all day, every day lifestyle and identity.
Finally, Disciple Now provides a unique way to reach out to new teenagers who may have little to no knowledge of what life in relationship with Christ and His people is all about. This opportunity invites students into a less intimidating environment that is tons of fun. It is a win-win situation for everyone –your ministry has the opportunity to deepen the faith of believers and grow to include new teenagers, and your students get the chance to personally invite friends to share life and spend time in God’s Word for a few days.
This year’s DNow will be an associational event, and we are very excited with the possibilities our local churches participating! The 2019 weekend theme is “The Call”! Students will be challenged to take personal responsibility for their relationship with God and respond to the call to follow Christ. We hope the weekend and Bible Study material will help develop all students into effective witnesses for Christ with their peers and in their community.
Cost for this event is $25 per person if paid by Dec 31($40 if paid between Dec 31 and Jan 7); which will includes 5 meals, a DNow t-shirt, all recreation, and group sessions with Bro. Ollie. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Bro. Ollie at opierson@fbchaskell.com.
